Major Development Project:

The project is new 3.4km single carriageway road linking A49 Winwick Road with A579 Winwick Lane. Works include junction improvements and vehicle containment upgrade of the existing Parkside Road bridge over the M6.

D Morgan was awarded this project through competitive tender process on the SCAPE framework for St Helens Council. We have delivered several key projects, for Balfour Beatty, through this framework in the North West. D Morgan was appointed to undertake the following works constructing the new link road and associated tie ins/connections to the existing road network.

Part of the new link road passes over the redundant Parkside Colliery which imposed two main constraints regarding the phasing and distribution of material. The first relates to material that can only be re-used within the Colliery area. The below tables show the volume of material that had to remain within the Colliery area, circa 18k m3 of 25k m3 total material required in this location.

D Morgan’s dedication and commitment were called upon to undertake the following work on the project:
  • Contracts Manager and Operations Manager allocated exclusively to the project from the outset, to ensure a collaborative and ‘best-for-project’ approach
  • Consideration and effective solutions of major site constraints and project sensitivities, including working under Overhead Power Lines'
  • Environmental and Quality Management Systems to ensure that the works were delivered safely, with due care for both the environment, and for ensuring the highest quality standards throughout our work
  • Compounds & Haul Roads
  • Enabling Works including Pre-Earthworks Drainage
  • Major Earthworks through colliery spoil
  • Installation of Drainage and Ducting 
  • Road Box Construction 
  • Attenuation Ponds
  • Street Lighting
