What a fantastic effort throughout 2024!

The purpose of the scheme is to improve 2km of coastal flood defences in Central Rhyl to protect homes, businesses and the tourist economy from flooding events and coastal erosion well into the future.

The eastern section consists of 1 to 3 tonne rock scour protection to the foundations of the existing defences. The rock is mostly buried beneath the existing beach level and there will be new walkways constructed through the rocks to maintain beach access.

The western section consists of a new stepped revetment, raised and widened promenade and new seawall with improved access via steps and a ramp to the beach.

Current activities:
▪️ PCC rear promenade bullnose walls and stitch beams
▪️ RC insitu rear promenade walls
▪️ PCC revetment installation
▪️ Sheet pile installation for new access ramp
▪️ Access ramp PCC anchor walls and tie-rod system
▪️ 6N filling operations
▪️ Waterproofing to existing walls
▪️ Surface water drainage, insitu revetments at outfalls

Our works are well underway where we are the Principal Contractor for the improvements to the northbound exit slip road at Junction 17 on the M6 motorway and a new junction layout on the A534 Old Mill Road Corridor between Sandbach and Congleton for access to a future business park development.

Our works are almost complete for the construction of two trial surcharge embankments, one with vertical band drains and a trial sewer to support the design of a future residential development. This trial will gather data on ground movement over time to assess:

1️⃣ The rate and amount of initial soil settlement (primary consolidation).
2️⃣ The rate and amount of long-term settlement (creep).
3️⃣ The effectiveness of band drains in speeding up soil settling.

The trial sewer will help test if the proposed deep sewer system can handle the site’s ground conditions before construction, informing the drainage plan for the proposed development.

From a virtual world utilising Tenstar Simulation AB , to real world hands-on experience at our Training & Development Site.

In our tailored training sessions, dependant on plant operator experience, we utilise the wide range of in-built exercises and with the integration of a Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon MCP80 screen, we use our own machine control training model on the simulator. We also have the added benefit of heading out to our own Training & Development Site to use the same model in a real world environment on both dozers and excavators for a variety of tasks.
